From the Mayor's Desk - October 2015
The recent wastewater system problem we experienced gave us another chance to use the Southwest Washington Public Alert system to notify our residents of the issue. The calls also asked us not to flush our toilets or run water down any drains until notified it was okay to do so. Our Public Works team was able to resolve the problem in a few hours and a second series of robocalls were made to notify us it was okay to resume using the system.
If you did not receive a call, it probably means your phone number is not in their database. All landlines in Skamania County should be in the database but if you want to ensure you will be included in any future alerts you will need to go online to add your mobile or VOIP phone to be called for future alerts. You can also enter an email address in order to be notified via email.
The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office website has a page explaining how the system works and a link to follow in order to add your number.
In other news, we have an opening on our City Council that we would like to fill. The position is up for election this November which means the new council member will only serve about three months, through the end of the year. We are working on many important issues, including our 2016 budget, and would like to get back to a full council to bring as many sharp minds and points of view into the process as we can. Last thing, Halloween is coming and the days are getting shorter. We all know what this means but just as a reminder: drive cautiously, watch for kids and stay safe.
