From the Mayor's Desk - April 2015

You may have noticed that the parking lots in our Central Business District are becoming less congested over the past few months. This has been an area of focus for us and our efforts are showing signs of progress.

Our next step is to begin enforcing the City’s overnight parking permit program for residents and business owners in the CBD. Our municipal code allows two (2) parking permits for each residential unit in the CBD and one (1) parking permit for each CBD business.

If you live or own a business in the CBD it is your responsibility to contact City Hall at 427-8182 or in person to arrange to pick up your parking permits and display them on the dashboard of your vehicle.

There is no charge for these parking permits, but beginning April 20, 2015 we will report all illegally parked vehicles to the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office for ticketing and potential towing if the vehicles are not removed from the CBD parking lots.

It has also come to our attention that there is an individual panhandling outside the Post Office/City Hall area. The Constitution provides protections for individuals that make it difficult for cities to deal with vagrants and panhandlers in almost any way but we are looking into legal ways to mitigate or remedy this situation.

In the meantime, please remember you are well within your rights to either respond or not when approached by someone asking for assistance with the expectation they will respect your rights in the same way we respect theirs.

If you feel threatened or uncomfortable dealing with any individuals in our community please contact City Hall to report the situation so that we can respond appropriately.

If you have questions or comments about parked cars, vagrants, colorful flower planters, recreational marijuana or anything else to do with our city you can reach me at 427-8182 or via don [at] northbonneville.net (subject: A%20message%20from%20North%20Bonneville%20website) (email).
