From the Mayor's Desk - August 2013
As we head into August we’re taking time to look back and ahead at the same time.
In the rear view we happily put another successful Gorge Days into the books. Our city was on display to somewhere in the neighborhood of 2,500 people who were treated to classic cars, delicious food, a free Johnny Limbo concert and more activities than I can remember. From Volks Walkers and Caterpillar Hunters to Bigfoot searchers and garage sale aficionados, there was certainly something for everybody to enjoy. Big thanks to Casey Roeder and the Skamania County Chamber of Commerce for coordinating the entire event, the NBFD crew for putting on another great car show, Darlene Caird for making the citywide garage sale happen (again), the Fort Vancouver Regional Library, our own Heritage Trails Committee and the host of others who all worked so hard to make this year’s Gorge Days one of the best ever.
Looking ahead, we continue to see positive changes in our city, including a new City Council member and a new gazebo.
Mike Hamilton was appointed to fill the vacancy at the last council meeting in July and will officially take his seat at the first meeting on August 13th. Mike is a long time resident of North Bonneville and will be a great addition to our council. Please join me in welcoming him aboard when you see him.
Our public works team is putting the final touches on a new gazebo on the northwest side of City Hall, near the tunnel to the tennis courts. This gazebo will serve several purposes. As it sits near the first tee of our disc golf course it will help guide disc golfers to the start of the course and provide them with a place to take a break between rounds. Additionally, it gives all of us another spot to get out of the sun (or rain) and read our mail, enjoy lunch or just relax. I hope you all get a chance to take advantage of it while the weather is still on the summery side.
As always, I welcome your comments, suggestions and applications to apply for our open council position. You can reach me at 427-8182 or via don [at] northbonneville.net (subject: A%20message%20from%20North%20Bonneville%20website) (email )or just catch me walking or biking around town.
