From the Mayor's Desk - September 2017
September is here and school has started. Please drive extra carefully as you approach the bus shelters around our city and remember that there are several different buses that serve our community throughout the day so it’s always worth slowing down to be safe.
While school is one of the indicators summer is coming to a close, the weather apparently didn’t get the message. The forecast is for extremely high temperatures for the next week and it may continue on after that for some time. Take it easy, stay hydrated and make sure your pets have plenty of water and a cool place to hang out.
BNSF continues to work on their new railroad siding, which is impacting traffic with closures at Hot Springs Way during the week. The closures should be over soon but the rest of the project will continue for some time.
There will also be another round of repaving from the east end of the green bridge over Hamilton Creek to the intersection of Evergreen Drive with East Cascade and then continuing down East Cascade.
The current schedule calls for grinding and pulverization of the existing street surface to begin on September 11th. That process should take a couple of days followed by a 4-day window for the surface to cure before the paving takes place. There will be weight restrictions in place for those 4 days, please read and obey all signage relating to this project. The actual paving should take another few days and we’re planning on having the entire project completed before the end of the month.
As a side note, I know it’s easier for me to get cranky when the weather is hot so I will be making a concerted effort to remain pleasant through the heat wave. If anyone else has this same issue, please join me in taking a quick mental trip to a secluded beach, alpine mountain or whatever your idea of a “happy place” may be before letting that sharp retort escape our lips.
With all the anger and negativity throughout our country it’s the perfect time to be nice to one another. Random acts of kindness are always a good idea.
Note: We are now accepting applications for Lodging Tax Funds (JLARC)
