From the Mayor's Desk - July 2013

“The only constant is change” is one of many variations of a quote attributed to a Greek philosopher named Heraclitus who predated Plato by about a century. Like a lot of quotes from the ancient Greeks it was pretty darn insightful and still holds true today.

Our city is always undergoing some sort of change but the past few weeks have been especially busy. We recently hired Richard Lafayette as our new Public Works Field Supervisor. Richard is a long time resident of North Bonneville and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position. If you see him around town please join me in welcoming him aboard.

Another change we’re experiencing is the imminent departure of our City Administrator, John Spencer. John has been instrumental in keeping our city up and running over the past three years and leaves us in a far better position than the one he found us in when he joined us in June of 2010. His combination of determination, enthusiasm and self-deprecating humor along with his
technical skills have benefited our community in many ways that will continue to pay dividends long after he leaves North Bonneville for new challenges.

His last day will be August 2nd so there’s still time to stop by City Hall and wish him well. He is also helping us in our search for his replacement and we have identified several solid candidates for his position so I feel confident we will continue to see progress and improvement in our city.

In other news, Gorge Days is just around the corner with all the usual fun and excitement. The North Bonneville Fire Department is hosting the Too Hot for the Streets Car Show and we’ll be having the Sock Hop and barbeque on Friday and a park full of delicious food, arts and crafts vendors and great activities for kids of all ages. This year the Antiques and Art in the Park will join the rest of our vendors in the city park while the Citywide Garage Sale will be going on both Friday and Saturday.

There will also be a luncheon at the Hot Springs Resort on Friday, a Volkswalk and free concert featuring Johnny Limbo and the Lugnuts on Saturday and more things than I can fit on the front page of this newsletter. Schedules are available at City Hall or online at Come out and join in the fun.
